Back to God Ministries International (BTGMI), an agency of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), has an opening for a full-time Advancement Project Specialist in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position plays a key role in BTGMI’s Advancement Team, managing multiple projects and providing executive assistance to the Director of Advancement. The Advancement Project Specialist will work collaboratively with all members of the team and outside vendors as BTGMI engage with the donors who support this international ministry.

Job Title          Advancement Project Specialist

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:

  1. Serves as Project Manager for direct impact (mail and digital) campaigns and other Advancement projects.
        a. Primary liaison between BTGMI and our direct impact vendor to:
            - Contribute ideas and feedback on strategy
            - Facilitate resource gathering and review process for all campaigns
            - Review and edit copy for appeals and newsletters
            - Manage campaign data to ensure accurate coding and reliable reporting
            - Ensure accurate and timely completion of projects, including direct mail and email campaigns
        b. Project manager for other Advancement projects. Contribute ideas, ensure communication and smooth work flow between Communications Team and other key players, facilitate review,
            and ensure accurate and timely completion of all projects (e.g. bulk mailings or donor surveys).

  2. Provides executive assistance to the BTGMI Director of Advancement.
        a. Handles correspondence for director of advancement, including thank-you letters to donors in special circumstances (e.g. memorial gifts)
        b. Works closely with other staff on writing and editing a variety of Advancement materials
        c. Coordinates BTGMI Advancement Team meetings and records and distributes team notes
        d. Functions as a member of the Communications Team and records and distributes team notes
        e. Other assistance as required by the Director of Advancement

  3. Provides assistance to the BTGMI Director in the area of Advancement.
        a. Maintains contact with international ministry leaders worldwide to facilitate the flow of information needed for reporting and communication with constituents
        b. Coordinates mailing of quarterly letters to major donor Executive Cabinet
        c. Drafts thank-you letters and coordinates mailing of these letters
        d. Attends Council of Delegates meetings and records and distributes meeting notes

Qualifications

  1. Able to support the mission, vision and values of the CRCNA.
  2. Thorough knowledge and demonstrated ability in office practices and procedures.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven editorial and proofreading skills.
  4. Cross-cultural communication skills and experience relevant to engaging with our international ministry leaders.
  5. Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects with overlapping timeframes.
  6. Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff as well as outside clients and vendors.
  7. Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise judgment in prioritization and performance of duties.
  8. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality on necessary matters in connection with staff, donors, and other situations.
  9. Personal commitment to the Christian faith and committed to the mission and vision of Back to God Ministries International.
  10. Working knowledge of the Christian Reformed Church structure, agencies, and community is an asset but not essential.
  11. Previous work experience in an Advancement/Development setting, including experience with donor databases is an asset but not essential.

Additional Information

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. At least three years related job experience in advancement or project management work.
