Overview

The Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) has an opening for a full-time Ministry Consultant with Pastor Church Resources in our Grand Rapids, Michigan office. This position will engage in consultation work with congregations and pastors including prevention, education and intervention in situations of transition or conflict. Status:            Full-time, exempt

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:

 

  1. Provide direct consultation to pastors and congregations in situations of transition or conflict.
  2. Identify systemic or individual dynamics that call for intensive responses of assessment, mediation, restoration or healing.
  3. Develop collaborative relationships with church visitors, regional pastors and classical interim committees.
  4. Equip pastors and congregations through direct education and training to: enhance communication, engage differences productively and manage dynamics of conflict.
  5. Provide strategic information relative to Church Order and appropriate protocols.
  6. Oversee mentoring program for newly ordained Ministers of the Word.
  7. Oversee Healthy Church Initiative.
  8. Participate in case consultation team, with representatives from PCR and Safe Church Ministry, as required.
  9. Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by Co-Director of PCR.

Qualifications

  1. Professing membership in a Christian Reformed congregation, or of a church in ecclesiastical fellowship with the CRCNA, and agreement with the doctrine of the church signified by signing a covenant statement.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, listening, leadership and administrative skills.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Commitment to, and capacity for, working as part of a team.
  5. Capacity for working cross-culturally.
  6. Demonstrated intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, database usage, virtual meetings, etc.

Additional Information

  1. Master’s degree in pastoral ministry, social work, clinical counseling, or related profession.  Ordination in the Christian Reformed Church required.
  2. At least ten years experience in pastoral leadership preferred.
  3. Significant biblical/theological education and understanding.
  4. Understanding of CRC history, changing culture and polity.
  5. Advanced training in human relationship (Clinical Pastoral Education, clinical counseling) preferred.
  6. Training in restorative practices and mediation and familiarity with family systems theory and ability to integrate it with other disciplines is preferred.
