The CRC Office of Social Justice is seeking a regional organizer in California who is interested in the work of the Office of Social Justice and eager to help expand engagement on the topic of  immigration with area congregations. The organizer will mobilize congregations to gain a deeper understanding of immigration and how to respond Christians through education, worship, advocacy, and local connections. The primary responsibility of the organizer will be to develop relationships with church members in the region to encourage them and their congregation to engage one or more of the four focus areas. This position will run through June 30, 2018. The organizer will be expected to fulfill the responsibilities outlined below. The organizer will receive a $1,500 stipend within this period, receiving checks for $750 each on February 28, 2018 and June 30, 2018.



The tasks for the regional organizer will include these priority tasks:


  1. Mobilize members of four CRC congregations in your region. With the organizer’s support, members will work to deepen their congregation’s engagement with immigration on one or more of these focus areas:
    1. Education (including Church Between Borders workshops and book/film study resources)
    2. Worship (worship litanies, sample prayers, and sermon resources.)
    3. Advocacy (includes individuals signing up and participating in online OSJ advocacy opportunities, engaging with local elected officials, and publishing Op Eds with local media outlets.)
    4. Partnering with immigrants neighbors and immigrant serving organizations for community transformation.  
  2. Provide ongoing support to each congregation as they further engage in meeting the partner goals.
  3. Provide support to organize and participate in two in-district meetings with Members of Congress and members of congregations.
  4. Report on and discuss progress monthly with the OSJ immigration mobilizer.
  5. Brainstorm with congregations to promote further steps that they can take after June 2018, including possible continued partnership with the OSJ.
  6. Other tasks that may develop as the project unfolds in the course of its implementation.
