The Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) has a full-time (40 hrs/wk) opening for a Payroll Administrator/Accountant in our Grand Rapids, Michigan offices. This position will implement bi-weekly and monthly payroll processing and reporting; auditing for accuracy; provide back-up for the Payroll Manager; and perform accounting tasks related to the efficient maintenance and processing of accounts payable transactions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following.


  1. Process Home office and Overseas payrolls for the Denomination.
  2. Implement employee maintenance changes/new hires/terminations.
  3. Manage/maintain Mercer – COLA tables on a monthly basis for Overseas employees.
  4. Amend Payroll system General Ledger rules for additional States, Depts. and Programs.
  5. Balance all tax ledgers as preparation for IRS Quarterly Form 941.
  6. Audit 401k/Roth/Social Security maximum contribution levels.
  7. Prepare fiscal Yr-end spreadsheets for audit: Accrued Payroll & Vacation Liability.
  8. Research Tax law compliance.
  9. Maintain system documentation.
  10. Resolve employee questions.


  1. Audit invoices and credit memos in preparation for payment.
  2. Process and pay invoices by verifying transaction information, scheduling and preparing disbursements.
  3. Process for reimbursement employee expense reports by verifying the amount due; matching receipts to expenses claimed; auditing claimed expenses to company reimbursement policies; reviewing proper levels of authority and approvals.
  4. Identify and resolve internal control issues and discrepancies by reviewing existing policies, verifying changes in authorized personnel, working with immediate supervisor to resolve issues.
  5. Maintain financial security by following internal accounting controls, policies and procedures.
  6. Provide and maintain system documentation and process analysis.
  7. Oversee Employee Benefit entries and reconciliation in to General Ledger.
  8. Other GL and audit support as assigned.

  1. Demonstrated ability to work in payroll/accounting software, Excel and Word.
  2. Ability to maintain confidentiality, work accurately and dependably.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  4. Have or be willing to acquire a working knowledge of the Christian Reformed Church ministries.

Additional Information

  1. Bachelor’s degree required
  2. Two or more years payroll experience preferred
  3. Two or more years accounting experience preferred
