    Back to God Ministries International, the media ministry of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, has a full-time (40 hrs/wk) position opening for a Managing Editor, Today Devotional in the Grand Rapids offices. The position lead a creative team in the production of the Today devotional in all its forms, including management of the planning, production, distribution, and feedback processes. This role will develop and lead others in producing appropriate media that communicates the Christian faith to English speaking people of diverse cultures, primarily in North America, but also around the world.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
    Pre-Production Responsibilities:

    1. Work with the Today Executive Editor and team to analyze faith formational needs of core audiences and develop strategic methods to reach those needs.
    2. Develop and oversee media tactics to meet those faith formational needs, analyzing production needs and assembling resources, including written, audio, or video programming, social media, online resources, print materials, and more. 
    3. Lead all other aspects of program pre-production (e.g., researching topics, writing, editing, and coordination with outside sources of assistance).
    4. Plan task schedules, solicit topics, and assign staff with production tasks for all components.

    Production Responsibilities:

    1. Manage the overall workflow from content development, through various versions and forms of media production, to distribution and follow-up in multiple channels.
    2. Lead the production processes and engage teams for all content, from written, audio, video, web, social, and other media production. 
    3. Recruit, oversee, and manage qualified freelance writers and talent as needed.
    4. Work closely with team through the content editing and assembly process for print, audio, and digital versions
    5. Write original copy on a continual basis, for example, user focused blogs, e-mails, and communications, and provide copy editing for a variety of Today related print and digital offerings.

    Post-Production Responsibilities:

    1. Lead recording, printing, and distribution processes, setting schedule, managing vendors, overseeing budget, and liaising with volunteers.
    2. Manage and oversee the follow-up process to ensure exceptional customer service, responding to questions and providing resources for appropriate listener response, in conjunction with other staff.
    3. Coordinate marketing plan development and execution with marketing staff.
    4. Lead budget planning and participate in the operational planning of the overall program in conjunction with other staff and partners. 
    5. Develop relationships with strategic partners in media ministry (e.g., freelance talent, FaithAlive, Words of Hope, Our Daily Bread, etc.).
    6. Any additional tasks as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Recruit, oversee, and manage vendors and freelance talent.

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    1. Membership in a Christian church and agreement with the doctrine of the CRC signified by signing a covenant statement.
    2. Demonstrated professional skills in ministry and communication, including production of spiritually formative print and electronic media.
    3. Demonstrated skills in project management or production workflow management, including the use of digital team tools.
    4. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. 
    5. Demonstrated communication, messaging, writing, copy editing, and computer skills.
    6. Demonstrated gifts for evangelism, encouragement, intercession, and administration. 
    7. The ability to contribute productively alone, within a team, and with remote contexts.
    8. The ability to network within the denomination and build a community of devotional writers.
    9. The ability to manage resources and budgets effectively.
    10. A professional and enthusiastic attitude to assigned work.
    11. Support of the vision and mission of the Back to God Ministries International.

    Additional Information

    1. A Bachelor’s degree in communications or ministry related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
    2. At least six years of experience in media, publications, digital communications, or ministry.
