Chicago Climate Witness Project Regional Organizer 

Must live in Chicago area

Temporary, part-time 


The Climate Witness Project (CWP), a ministry of the Office of Social Justice of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), is seeking a regional organizer in Chicago area, Regional organizers help congregations of the CRCNA and other denominations respond to the climate crisis.

The CWP Regional organizer is a volunteer position, which receives an annual stipend depending on the number of congregations engaged in the region:
Level 1 (6 or fewer congregations) = $2,000
Level 2 (7-9 congregations) = $2,250
Level 3 (10+ congregations) = $2,500

The regional organizer is responsible for a loosely defined region in the United States or Canada. Regions are selected based on concentration of CRC congregation and members. Currently, there are 10 Regions:

  • West Michigan area
  • Chicago (IL) area
  • NW Iowa
  • Denver (CO) area
  • North West US
  • Southern California
  • British Columbia
  • Edmonton (AB) area
  • Hamilton (ON) area
  • Toronto (ON) area
  • North East US

The Regional Organizer is responsible to recruit and support CWP Partners and Congregations and Special Ministries (Organizations with 3 or more Partners). CWP Congregations and Special Ministries mitigate climate change through work in 4 areas called the Project’s Pillars:
1) Worship
2) Education
3) Energy Stewardship
4) Advocacy


Specific duties are outlined in the Organizers contract, and will include some (or all) of these (performed by the organizer and/or Partners in the region):
• Make presentations on climate change and the CWP at churches and other organizations
• Write Op Eds on climate change
• Build relationships and meet with law makers in support of the Project’s Advocacy goals
• Help congregations decrease their carbon footprints
• Encourage and equip congregations to incorporate creation care in their worship
• Encourage and equip congregations to provide education offerings on climate change mitigation
• Assist OSJ with fund raising efforts
• Raise awareness and support for World Renew’s climate adaptation efforts
• Provide feedback and suggestions to the Field Coordinator
• Take on new responsibilities as the project unfolds

CWP organizers will:
• Meet monthly with all of the organizers to share successes and challenges
• Meet one on one periodically with the CWP Field Coordinator
• Report twice annually on project work
