The Christian Reformed Church in North America has a full-time opening for a Director of Human Resources - US in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position will administer, supervise and develop all areas of human resources management within the U.S. denominational agencies and departments. This includes human resource functions for staff working out of the Grand Rapids central office as well as those serving remotely throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following

1. Oversee an ongoing effort to recruit employees, including internal postings, job advertisements, community networking and other means, to assure an adequate staff resource pool is provided, and that best practices are followed.
2. Oversee the administration of compensation programs, including plan design, market pay studies, budgeting, payroll administration and related functions.
3. Administer classification program, which includes classifying and reclassifying positions, and reviewing job descriptions for consistency.
4. Assure implementation of the annual performance evaluation process.
5. Oversee maintenance of staff personnel files, ensuring legal compliance.
6. Annually review and make recommendations for improvement of employment policies, procedures, and practices. Communicate changes in employment policies and procedures and ensure proper compliance.
7. Coordinate new employee orientation and onboarding.
8. Oversee staff development, including developing and coordinating training sessions on various staff development topics.
9. Oversee employee relations and provide support for coaching and training managers and supervisors related to their work in this area.
10. Oversee insurance benefit programs coordinated in partnership with Reformed Benefits Association.
11. Oversee all employee benefits; review and update benefits as needed and ensure employee communication related to all benefits.
12. Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensure compliance. Stay current on recent federal, state and case law changes and monitor labor law updates and newsletters for changes that affect HR. Maintain communication with the agency’s labor attorneys related to employment matters.
13. Oversee and maintain a human resources information system that meets organizational employment related information needs.
14. Lead management efforts related to improving organizational culture and employee morale.
15. Oversee occupational health and safety protocols.
16. Coordinate employee opinion surveys and exit interviews/surveys.
17. Provide direct supervision for members of the HR Team. Provide for personal and professional support and accountability on a timely basis.
18. Serve as a resource for congregations around areas of human resources; assist churches in developing their own policies, procedures and guidelines.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
1. Membership in a Christian church and agreement with the doctrine of the CRC signified by signing the Covenant for Office Bearers in the CRC
2. Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources and benefits administration
3. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management staff, employees and vendors
4. Proficient computer skills in a variety of software programs, (HRIS, Google Suite)
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
6. Demonstrated maturity and ability to perform well under stress
7. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
8. Demonstrated experience facilitating conflict resolution, and consensus/team building activities.
9. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

Education and/or Experience

1. A bachelor’s degree in human resource management, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree in human resources management or a related field is preferred.
2. HR certification preferred.
3. Significant experience in public or private human resource management is required, including supervisory experience.
